What causes redness in the skin?
Facial redness, appearing as large red blotches, typically on the cheeks, usually results from changes in the blood vessels in the skin.
What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a skin condition where the blood vessels over-respond to common stimuli such as sun, stress, exercise, spicy foods, or alcohol. This results in larger blood vessels leading to facial redness. In some people rosacea can also lead to pimples.
How is Rosacea and other redness treated?
Redness is successfully treated using the V-Beam laser. The laser gently shrinks abnormally large blood vessels back to their normal size, improving the colour and appearance of your skin.
What does the treatment feel like?
During the laser treatment, you may feel a slight stinging sensation. A light cooling solution is sprayed before each laser pulse to protect the upper layers of the skin to reduce discomfort.
How will I look and feel after the laser treatment?
After the laser treatment, you may be slightly red or puffy for a couple of days. You should wear sunscreen during this period if you will be in the sun for any length of time. It can take several treatments before the full results are achieved. This will be determined by the treating doctor.
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY (PDT)
Photodynamic therapy uses a combination of a special light source and a mild skin treatment to improve sun damage, acne, and precancerous skin changes. Because PDT is gentle, safe, and gives excellent results, it has become a popular way of treating these conditions. It is also able to treat large areas of the face and scalp quickly and effectively.
PDT has been shown to be effective in the rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin, and can be used with laser treatments to improve discolouration, excess blood vessels and dull skin tones caused by sun exposure.
